As Jean Brown approached her eighties, she began wondering what mark she might leave on the world. The answer came unexpectedly from her past.

Having previously owned two flower shops, Brown had spent years surrounded by the beauty, color, and personality of flowers. Those memories sparked an idea: why not capture those flower memories through painting?

With a collection of watercolor supplies and a willingness to try something new, Brown began a new creative journey.

Painting in Watercolor

Brown is drawn to watercolor for its fluidity and its ability to take on a life of its own. Her process begins with a simple decision—a flower she wants to paint. She wets the paper, introduces the watercolor, and lets the painting begin to unfold.

Rather than controlling every detail, Brown allows the water and pigment to move naturally, guiding the process with her brush as the colors flow across the paper. The result is a creative partnership between the artist, the medium, and the subject.

Finding Inspiration

For Brown, inspiration comes from the ever-changing beauty of the landscape. The shifting colors, light, and seasons continually offer something new to discover and capture in watercolor.
