What happens when the improvisation of jazz meets the spontaneity of plein air painting?
Rhythm & Hues — Color It Jazz!

This exciting new collaboration between the Eagle Plein Air Festival and the Eagle Jazz & Blues Fest invites the community to experience art and music coming alive together.
Join us Friday evening, September 18, at Heritage Park for a free kickoff concert where Eagle Plein Air Festival artists will set up their easels and paint the sights, sounds, energy and atmosphere of the evening—right before your eyes.
As musicians improvise on stage, artists will improvise on canvas.
Golden Idaho sunlight. The energy of a live performance. The movement of the crowd. The rhythm of the music. Artists will interpret it all in real time, transforming melody into motion, harmony into color and improvisation into brushstroke.
A Preview of the Eagle Plein Air Festival
For those who have never experienced plein air painting, this is your chance to see the magic happen.
Registered Eagle Plein Air Festival artists will participate in this special free paint-out, giving the community a sneak peek at the artists and creative energy that will fill Eagle during the upcoming festival.
Walk through Heritage Park, watch artists at their easels, meet the painters and see how each artist interprets the same moment in a completely different way.
And if a painting catches your eye, you may even be able to take home an original work inspired by the evening’s performance.
Art. Music. Community.
Jazz and plein air painting have more in common than you might think.
Both are rooted in observation, spontaneity and creative response. Jazz musicians listen and respond to one another. Plein air artists observe and respond to the world around them.
At Rhythm & Hues, those two creative languages come together.
The musicians make the music.
The artists make the moment visible.
Families can stroll through the park, listen to live music, watch paintings develop from blank canvas to finished artwork, and experience the creative process up close.
Children, especially, will love seeing how an artist can take the sights and sounds of an evening and turn them into color.
Come See Eagle Come to Life
