Prerequisites:

Participants  should have  some  knowledge  and  experience  with  oil  painting  to  get  the  most  out  of   the  class.

Objectives:

Participants  will  learn  to  create  more  interesting  paintings  through  an  advance   understanding  of  how  to:

  • Organize  the  shapes  and  masses  in  a  painting;
  • To  see  values  in  nature  more  correctly  and  apply  them  to  a  painting;
  • Harmonize  your  color  palette  working  with  fewer  colors;
  • Control  a  viewer’s  eye  with  a  variety  of  edges  in  your  brushwork  for  more   interesting  paintings;

What to Expect

  • You’ll be painting outdoors on the new patio at Finer Frames. Dress for the weather. Bring a lunch & plenty of water to drink.
  • All  students  will  receive  individual  instruction  and  feedback  during  the  open   painting  sessions;
  • There  will  be  a  question  and  answer  period  at  the  end  of  class.  This  could  cover   topics  discussed  in  the  lecture,  art  materials,  resources,  workshops,  etc;
  • Participants  will  receive  a  list  of  books  and  other  handy  reference  materials.

Materials:

  • French  easel  box/pochade  box  or  table  top  easel
  • Small  sketchbook,  pencils  or  markers,
  • paper  towels
  • plastic    grocery  bags  and  baby  wipes
  • Odorless  thinner  (gamsol)
  • Flat  or  filbert  bristle  and  synthetic  brushes  sizes  4-­‐8.  I  mostly  use  flats   Small  cotton  canvas  or  panel.
  •  6  x  8,  8  x  8  or  8×10 canvas or panels
  • Colors:  (Recommended  Manufacturers:  Gamblin,  Winsor  Newton,  Rembrandt,  Utrecht)
  • Titanium  White
  • Cad  Yellow  light  or  Cad  Lemon
  • Cad  Red  Medium  or  similar  (I  use  Permament  Red  Medium  from  Rembrandt)
  • French  Ultramarine  Blue
  • Optional  or  convenience  colors:
  • Burnt  Sienna,  or  Transparent  Oxide  Red  (Earth  Red)
  • Yellow  Ochre  Light/Pale  or  Naples  Yellow  Deep  (Earth  Yellow)
  • Cerrulean  Blue  Hue

Biography

Sherri  is  a  landscape  painter  living  in  Eagle,  Idaho.  She  has  a  background  in  graphic  design,     and  worked  at  major  design  firms  in  San  Francisco  and  Washington  DC  before  becoming  a   full-­‐time  painter  in  2006.  Sherri  has  studied  landscape  painting  with  Scott  Christensen,  Matt   Smith,  Marc  Hanson,  Joe  Paquet,  Robert  Moore,  and  most  recently,  Bryan  Mark  Taylor.     Sherri  has  won  both  regional  and  national  awards  for  her  paintings  including  se
